30 days to transformation

I cannot stress enough how 30 days, one month, four weeks or however you want to size it up is the key to personal transformation.

There is a book titled the Greatest Salesman in the World, authored by Og Mandino which was recommended to me by my uncle Rashid some years ago. This book delivers a method of change in appreciation for anyone who my be a little off their perspective path or require guidance without being preached to.

20130912-142228.jpg

I suffered some emotional ups and downs in my life and you wonder if it will ever end when experiencing an emotional storm. I can truly attest how a simple 30 day practice of change is transformational. BUT, there has to be commitment to change.
Here are a list of things that can be transformed in 30 days with the correct method and dedication:

  • Your Physical body for the better.
  • Your outlook on any given subject.
  • Your health mental and physical.
  • Your addiction (eradicated).
  • Your entire being.
  • Your Love life.
  • As a matter of fact I had feelings of despair, thinking the world absolutely is horrible, only to have a small change redirect my focus in a blink of an eye. If magic is available in that manor, just think what magic you could experience in 30 days.

Stay so fresh and so Clean cause ain’t not body dope as you.

    Society of Haters..appreciate someones perfection.

We are such haters in this modern culture. Our culture is waiting to see failure, doom and destruction at any given moment, we even help it along if there is little cost to us, just read Youtube.com comments. As Cee-lo sang, “Ain’t that some Shit.”

It seems few in todays society few of us can truly appreciate genius and moments of perfection in other individuals, we down play spectacular moments portrayed by others, when we wish we could bask in their glory. This is most likely the reason for Reality TV’s popularity. We can judge/haterate without personal stake or cost. We, in particular most americans are in constant love/hate competitive relationships with the world at large. I see it in families, marriages and even my own life. I am no saint but there is one thing people who know me can say, as much as I am an attention whore, I love to see other people shine. It makes my heart smile when someone is exceptional. Exceptional people make me question my ability and test myself to see if I can elevate my being.

Each person present in the time space continuum has a range of specific and unique talents, yet we seek notoriety for talents of mass public attention. When we should really be working to be our own worst judge. Life is not high school, and there is no real “Cool Kids table” for adults, but that is our reptilian brain comfort zone. Our human status is always seeking the approval outside of our physical bodies. To a degree I can understand that view if it is regarded as a “personal second opinion”, but typically its not the case. Lets all work on the ability to appreciate those people with the ability to exploit their own unique talent for the betterment of themselves and others, in other words. Be thankful for the talent of others to inspire your soul.

Just think about how many people were inspired by the talent of Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, BIll Gates and a host of others.

    Be appreciators not haters.

    A picture is worth a 1000 emotions

    20130501-110304.jpg

They say words are powerful, and can cause the creation of worlds, but i don’t think words can match the power of a single picture to reveal the truth in our lives.

Even though the most deceiving tool we as humans have at our disposal is our eyes, these light gathering devices can help push us in a need direction of change when gauging ourselves. How many people have you ever heard state the reason they became conscious of their health and remained committed after seeing a picture of the physical change noted after seeing a picture of themselves. Seeing ourselves in a physical mirror can be and is a measure in deception. Mirrors are too limiting and display a level of realtime bias based on our state of mind and chemical/emotional brain state. The other measure our human brains have a problem with is gauging very slow change. For instance, I had not how much I have changed since I initially got married until I revisited my wedding video. OMG!!! I was one skinny being, my skin was so different.

Every few years I am caught off guard by seeing a picture with my gut prominently requiring more real estate than I am humanly comfortable representing in the physical world. What ensues next is my half assed attempt to exercise more, which I accomplish and either get too thin to where I abandon the effort to find the right picture size.

I am not a HUGH human, but body image or body perception counts for a great deal in our society, sad but so dam true. What is a human to do?
So I pledge to find the right weigh (197lbs ~204lbs water weight accounted for) to live my life.

I have to use more than my eyes to gauge my appearance and changes in life.

    Job’s, Unemployment and America

We all complain about having to go to work. Work or having a job is necessary for the masses  to sustain a somewhat comfortable life. I too have these debates internally about working or a job. Most individual have never asked themselves, “What can I do for a living which would fulfill my life and soul with joy?”.

I have asked myself that very question and sought out that answer, except there is one problem. It’s not just one thing, or my opinions change depending on my life experience. This question is important for all of us to keep asking.

What typically occurs for most humans in America is we settle for what seems to be the easiest, like water down a hill. There is the problem directly. We get a job, putting our future and life and control in the hands of a few people. This is not a bad thing really, but there are alternatives. The alternatives depend on you method of thinking.

Once upon a time in America it was not necessary to attend college, that was then. Now being employed in the middle class requires most people to prove ones self by buying into debt with a college education, which still holds no promise of future earnings. For instance my daughter will exit college $140,000 in debt at the age of 22. WTF!

At the turn of the 19 century, a person could lean a trade as an apprentice. There one could test the waters, gain experience and perfect a craft. Your education was traded for time not dollars and time. Where can a person become a viable apprentice out of high school in today’s society.

Our primary education system is no help to steer individual in the direction of having many options for employment today. The American education was designed to prepare the immigrants from Europe and other parts of the world to have the basic qualification as modern work force. Many individuals immigrating to America had very low education and many could not do the basics of reading, writing or common math. Our education was designed to give citizens the basics, nothing more.

What is the American Dream today?

What is the American Dream today?

The dream for many early American citizens was to provide for themselves and their family. These people wanted to be their own boss. What happened to that spirit? We are trained to work for other, buy from other but not do for ourselves.  Many people use the biggest argument of having health insurance. It is an excuse for most of us. We must stop it.

We need to change our mode of thinking. We need to figure our what would bring us joy as an occupation, while serving the public and eventually employing at least 5 to 10 people.

Create a job don’t look for one. Live frugally. It has taken me years to figure this out, and now I can’t look back. I am constantly looking at the world to see how I can provide joy to the world and value in my life.

Think about a good business owner who has 3 employees. That business owner helps to feed the square root of 3 or 9 people minimally, no to mention how much positive influence the business owner spreads.

Create  more, consume less, create your own job.

    Enjoy, your life

That is how change is carried out.

    WOW it’s quiet…Then GOD Spoke…whispered

Life in my reality has been really noisy for years, and I did not know it. Thing about noise is we can get use to external sounds and not understand that when we think life is quiet, there is still too much noise. To name a few, TV, radio, people, engine, tire, ringing ears, emotions are all thing creating much noise.

Yeah, I know that last paragraph was a handful and kind of abstract to most people, but stay with me.

Everywhere we go there is noise. Sounds are assaulting our ears at any given time. I never understood this until I had to sit in my residence after removing all the excess physical belongings accumulated over 15 years of living in my so called palace. Life got complicated and I needed to get simple, you know go minimalism. As I sat in my empty house in the middle of the night I noticed silence has sound and it can be deafening.  I was determined to find true peaceful silence.

Can you hear the seeds move?

I did find there was a time, for me when the noise of the material world diminished to levels where I could perceive the intelligence of things unnoticed and everything in between. That connection to the absence of physical sound came one morning when the noise in my head had been too loud emotionally the night before. It was brought to me by whispering aloud to myself, “What and I going to do?” One morning  by my empty garage,  without a sound, for a lack of better description it came to being, “Do not worry, this time has passed you will be new.” All I had to do was ask. There it was in a microsecond, then it was gone. The feeling was permanent.

After that experience, the task of hearing without sound became extremely important in my life, the experience of  being able to feel and connect with a new dimensionallly or rarely tapped sense became  important. It is hard to put into words but some of you may understand what I am talking about.

One thing it made me act upon is shutting the Fuck up and listening more to people, and life. Let the organic speak to me.

After this experience, this polished media world turned grey, and the ability to see bullshit value in an instant became really clear.

God somehow spoke to me, actually whispered and continues to do so. I just have to recognize the language and message.

However you picture GOD,  it’s personal to you, and I respect that. Currently I believe internally there is  a better understanding of GOD being everything. Alpha and Omega is much clearer.

All I can say is if you seek the “quiet” enough to be able to ask your important question, please have the patience to let the quiet settle. The answer will come.

Not Creepy but Someone is watching you.

There is some who is observing what you do. Don’t get creeped out, but it is a truth. Ninety percent of the time we are partially aware of our surroundings. Like I said don’t be creeped out. In this day and age we put so much information about our personal lives up for grabs and then we freak when someone who is not on your radar give you a clue they are observing your life.

    From 2010-07-20

This is a Creepy Picture, I took in Milwaukee!

That is not the point of my topic. The brainwashing continues to evolve in our society that things have to have a negative spin.

I am referring to admiration. There is a wonderful feeling to get confirmation about how you live your life has impacted another person as an example of how to live. I was an only child, therefore I really did not have a model to live by i.e older brother, sister, or cousin. Much of my early childhood gave me few examples I though were worth wild, so I turned to the thing in the world I felt were good and just.

I grew up in Detroit during the heyday of the Young Boys incorporated and the arrival of Crack cocaine.  I was an only child with a strong presence from my mother, I knew caution was my friend… actually extreme caution was my friend. I chose to follow the path of the narrow, since the path that was broad had too much risk.

I have followed this philosophy to this day. There were a few times in my life when I slipped and followed, but it turned out to be a lesson to fortify a reason to stay in my own lane of life., and just do  ME.

The reason I started to write this post started from a memory that put a smile on my face. There was a kid who I though had the world by a string when i lived in Detroit proper as a teenager. He was a musician, the girls loved him and he made friends easily. Some 20 years later, we met again and spent some time together over several months. ‘

I realized our lives had taken drastically different paths. His path led him to the penitentiary, while I had built a family and a career. Other aspect of our early child/teen years came to light as well. One thing that he informed me of was how for the longest time admired the way I carried myself and my life when we were young. Blew my socks off to hear that, because this guy is and was talented and displayed great confidence. I kind of looked up to this guy because during our teen years he had so much confidence, was very respectful, and had freedoms other could not handle.
To find out that He was looking up to me was a shocker. During our mid teens my path changed and we began did not see each other much.

    Example # 2

I was a guitar player for a local church when I was 29 years old. During a revival the church brought in a young keyboard player and drummer from a different congregation.  They were AWESOME musicians.  I played guitar to fill in the sound and the keyboard player and I hit it off . I found out this guy was only 19 years old, but carried himself  like a man many years older.  He was marred with a small daughter, and played for his fathers church.  As time passed and we played more gospel functions together, I asked if his family would like to have diner with my family, I would cook.  We had a nice time., and we continued our friendship for a few more years. Then paths separate me from people again. The temporary factor set in.

Years later I had an inkling to visit the church where the young keyboard player father was pastor. Things had changed, II walked into the church, took a seat. Watched as my old friend played the organ with such grace and felt good that he was doing well. Just as he noticed me , he stopped playing, the music stopped and he walked over  hugged me, and introduced me to the entire congregation. Then he proclaimed this is Brother Emmitt. He changed my life,  then he thanked GOD and went back to the keyboard and began playing  for the rest of the service. (wait,WHAT!)

After the service he informed me that I gave him direction because of how I lived, and until that point he had not seen a young black man who had his own house, took care of his family and lives a decent life without being shady.  He told me that I let him know the dream was possible. GOD works in mysterious way.

My ramblings in this post are this, you don’t know who is watching and admiring what you do and who you are. Yes you are doing all the right things but the wrong things may seem easier. There is someone who loves you for who you are and what you can become . Live that life to inspire others to reach their potential, and your happiness will fill with abundance

    Love you All

Appreciation…it’s the little thing that count.

WOW! Every day I wake up with a joy in my heart and say thank you for letting my feet hit the floor, my vision, and every little item of comfort i get to experience. Then as I am smiling throughout my day I can’t help but notice the amount of people who don’t (at least outwardly) seem to give a dam about how good they have it.

We as Americans and people of most progressive countries have it made and we don’t even know it. Think back to how humans live 100 years ago. The level of comfort was dismal compared to todays standards. Here is a list of daily items we take for granted.

    1.) Heat…we don’t have to chop wood
    2.) Food…we don’t have to hunt daily
3.) Water we don’t have to go to the well then boil our water
4.) Transportation….Just imagine if you had to ride a horse 30 miles every day.
5.) Hygiene….People use to die because of disease was so rampant from poor hygiene
6.) Education..Kid use to have to work the fields.
7.) Electricity…When the sun went down so did you.
8.) Information..Only select few were allowed to gain knowledge.
9.) Freedom…There was a time when you could be persecuted for any little difference. There was once a time when we could not be with the people we love, because our spouse was chosen for us.
10.) Comfort..I have found the poorest people in industrial nations have it easier (Greatly) than people in third world nations.

Appreciate what little you have to be thankful for, cause there is someone who wishes they were in your situation. If you have issue with depression, heartbreak, or some similar mental/emotional setback, remind yourself the truth about life. All of this is temporary, particularly when times seem rough. So tie a knot in the rope of your life and keep hanging till it gets better.

    Mistakes…the guide to Serendipity

I made a simple mistake, I mess up, flubbed, did a dumb thing.

I have another podcast and website that I use to have fun with and spend time with my closest friends producing. The real reason we do the podcast is a scheduled reason to spend an allotted predetermined time together. We have fun doing it, and have been for the last 2 years. Over the last 2 years we created over 50 shows and a great deal of pictures and content.
We have also changed the show since its inception, with the addition of my wife as a co-anchor.

Two days ago in an effort to update the BLOG www.emmittandrick.com to the latest software updates, I CRASHED the sit in a horrible fashion. Now if you got to the website there is a shell of what once was.

Since then I have set about recovering the data that was lost, which may take some time. The great aspect is I have revamped and started new, call it rebirth if you will. Now I can give Kellie the proper credit she deserves on the podcast.

Thanks to wordpress.com, we now have http://erkshow.wordpress.com/

Sometime, mistakes are designed to happen to force you to grow to something better. Once you realize you are better because of the mistake occurring you understand Serendipity.

Back to the basics..Old School methods still work

We live in a very high tech world today. Mobile phone that do everything from giving us our location to sending video around the world. When I was a child and my Dad gave me a digital watch (they were new at the time), he told me that someday everyone and almost everything would have a computer or operate from a computer. My father told me thing in 1976. I though wow, but I have lived long enough to see my fathers prediction come true.

Even though we live in a digital age, sometimes we have to go back to the analogue methods to get thing accomplished. Instead of sending and email, it is more personal to write a litter and mail (snail mail) it to someone. Instead of posting pictures of yourself to someone, it is better to visit them in person.

The same is true for fitness. I am finding out we don’t need memberships to gyms and fitness clubs to lose weight, gain muscle or to increase our overall health. The only real thing we need is drive and our own bodies to become fit.

IF you are unhealthy or unfit your happiness can be compromised. Don’t believe all that you hear, just because someone tell you the latest and greatest is the best doesn’t not make it true. GOD gave you everything you need to to be the perfect YOU! So use you to be perfect.

No Worry, No Cry. It works out over time.

Download or listen: How to be Happy podcast: (Things always work out for the best)

We spend a great deal of time worrying about our current situation, than maybe enjoying the situation. For some people it is hard to see the forest because those dam trees are blocking their vision. 99% of our life is temporary, having said that about time, why waist it concentrating on thing that are the filler in our daily lives.

Things Just Work out, if you let them.

Remember that test it was so important for you to pass in high school, nope you don’t. Remember that bill that you didn’t have enough money to pay for several months ago, nope.

Do you remember what you were so worried about…?:

Seriously, chose the good things to look forward to. I know it requires a retraining of your entire outlook, but it is worth it. Most of this we call life is temporary, 99.9 percent of it is temporary, so why worry about thing that are bound to change anyway.

Live well, I love you all
