Job’s, Unemployment and America

We all complain about having to go to work. Work or having a job is necessary for the masses  to sustain a somewhat comfortable life. I too have these debates internally about working or a job. Most individual have never asked themselves, “What can I do for a living which would fulfill my life and soul with joy?”.

I have asked myself that very question and sought out that answer, except there is one problem. It’s not just one thing, or my opinions change depending on my life experience. This question is important for all of us to keep asking.

What typically occurs for most humans in America is we settle for what seems to be the easiest, like water down a hill. There is the problem directly. We get a job, putting our future and life and control in the hands of a few people. This is not a bad thing really, but there are alternatives. The alternatives depend on you method of thinking.

Once upon a time in America it was not necessary to attend college, that was then. Now being employed in the middle class requires most people to prove ones self by buying into debt with a college education, which still holds no promise of future earnings. For instance my daughter will exit college $140,000 in debt at the age of 22. WTF!

At the turn of the 19 century, a person could lean a trade as an apprentice. There one could test the waters, gain experience and perfect a craft. Your education was traded for time not dollars and time. Where can a person become a viable apprentice out of high school in today’s society.

Our primary education system is no help to steer individual in the direction of having many options for employment today. The American education was designed to prepare the immigrants from Europe and other parts of the world to have the basic qualification as modern work force. Many individuals immigrating to America had very low education and many could not do the basics of reading, writing or common math. Our education was designed to give citizens the basics, nothing more.

What is the American Dream today?

What is the American Dream today?

The dream for many early American citizens was to provide for themselves and their family. These people wanted to be their own boss. What happened to that spirit? We are trained to work for other, buy from other but not do for ourselves.  Many people use the biggest argument of having health insurance. It is an excuse for most of us. We must stop it.

We need to change our mode of thinking. We need to figure our what would bring us joy as an occupation, while serving the public and eventually employing at least 5 to 10 people.

Create a job don’t look for one. Live frugally. It has taken me years to figure this out, and now I can’t look back. I am constantly looking at the world to see how I can provide joy to the world and value in my life.

Think about a good business owner who has 3 employees. That business owner helps to feed the square root of 3 or 9 people minimally, no to mention how much positive influence the business owner spreads.

Create  more, consume less, create your own job.

Enjoy, your life

Emmitt

That is how change is carried out.

WOW it’s quiet…Then GOD Spoke…whispered

Life in my reality has been really noisy for years, and I did not know it. Thing about noise is we can get use to external sounds and not understand that when we think life is quiet, there is still too much noise. To name a few, TV, radio, people, engine, tire, ringing ears, emotions are all thing creating much noise.

Yeah, I know that last paragraph was a handful and kind of abstract to most people, but stay with me.

Everywhere we go there is noise. Sounds are assaulting our ears at any given time. I never understood this until I had to sit in my residence after removing all the excess physical belongings accumulated over 15 years of living in my so called palace. Life got complicated and I needed to get simple, you know go minimalism. As I sat in my empty house in the middle of the night I noticed silence has sound and it can be deafening.  I was determined to find true peaceful silence.

Can you hear the seeds move?

I did find there was a time, for me when the noise of the material world diminished to levels where I could perceive the intelligence of things unnoticed and everything in between. That connection to the absence of physical sound came one morning when the noise in my head had been too loud emotionally the night before. It was brought to me by whispering aloud to myself, “What and I going to do?” One morning  by my empty garage,  without a sound, for a lack of better description it came to being, “Do not worry, this time has passed you will be new.” All I had to do was ask. There it was in a microsecond, then it was gone. The feeling was permanent.

After that experience, the task of hearing without sound became extremely important in my life, the experience of  being able to feel and connect with a new dimensionallly or rarely tapped sense became  important. It is hard to put into words but some of you may understand what I am talking about.

One thing it made me act upon is shutting the Fuck up and listening more to people, and life. Let the organic speak to me.

After this experience, this polished media world turned grey, and the ability to see bullshit value in an instant became really clear.

God somehow spoke to me, actually whispered and continues to do so. I just have to recognize the language and message.

However you picture GOD,  it’s personal to you, and I respect that. Currently I believe internally there is  a better understanding of GOD being everything. Alpha and Omega is much clearer.

All I can say is if you seek the “quiet” enough to be able to ask your important question, please have the patience to let the quiet settle. The answer will come.

Appreciation…it’s the little thing that count.

WOW! Every day I wake up with a joy in my heart and say thank you for letting my feet hit the floor, my vision, and every little item of comfort i get to experience. Then as I am smiling throughout my day I can’t help but notice the amount of people who don’t (at least outwardly) seem to give a dam about how good they have it.

We as Americans and people of most progressive countries have it made and we don’t even know it. Think back to how humans live 100 years ago. The level of comfort was dismal compared to todays standards. Here is a list of daily items we take for granted.

1.) Heat…we don’t have to chop wood
2.) Food…we don’t have to hunt daily
3.) Water we don’t have to go to the well then boil our water
4.) Transportation….Just imagine if you had to ride a horse 30 miles every day.
5.) Hygiene….People use to die because of disease was so rampant from poor hygiene
6.) Education..Kid use to have to work the fields.
7.) Electricity…When the sun went down so did you.
8.) Information..Only select few were allowed to gain knowledge.
9.) Freedom…There was a time when you could be persecuted for any little difference. There was once a time when we could not be with the people we love, because our spouse was chosen for us.
10.) Comfort..I have found the poorest people in industrial nations have it easier (Greatly) than people in third world nations.

Appreciate what little you have to be thankful for, cause there is someone who wishes they were in your situation. If you have issue with depression, heartbreak, or some similar mental/emotional setback, remind yourself the truth about life. All of this is temporary, particularly when times seem rough. So tie a knot in the rope of your life and keep hanging till it gets better.

Be Full of joy and Blessed. Emmitt

THE AUTO SHOW IS HERE AND GONE!

Once upon a time in Detroit, it was a no brainer attending the Auto Show in Detroit. That was before it became the NORTH AMERICAN AUTO SHOW…Tadaaa.

Detroit Autoshow At a Glance

Detroit Autoshow At a Glance ( Emmitt Muckles- Photographer)

Pictures from the auto show

See when I was a child, there was a large percentage of my family who were employed by the automotive industry.   Namely the BIG Three automakers. Well we know know some of the big 3 in today’s terms have little to do with North American or Detroit.  Who cares, the Auto show is here. I digress, Therefore we got access to free tickets to the auto show because of family/employer affiliation.  Our entire family would attend this event in January. Well it happened again, I don’t work for the automotive industry, but I do work for the Solar energy  industry. Somehow my company has a relationship with an electric car company, and guess what? I got free tickets….Yahoooooo!

I am such a geek, that upon entering the Detroit North American Auto Show, the automobiles didn’t even catch my eye. I was busy looking at the technology for the large wall L.E.D matrix displays which seem to be everywhere. I spent a good half hour looking at the technology and wiring before I even looked at a single car.

The presentation was wonderful across the board. Displaying cutaways of components, and different explanations of the technology involved with today’s automobile was a mild nerdy wonderland for me. There was one observation that struck me. Most cars look very much the same. If there were no NAMES of vehicles, a person would not know who manufactured what product.

Overall, I loved the showing the automobile companies presented. I really wish the electric automobile companies had a better front in the marketplace. Let me just say it this was. I HATE GOING TO THE GAS STATION. Comprehensive electric cars cannot get here fast enough for me. because there are so many methods for me to control how I obtain fuel for an electric car.

GOOD Job Detroit at putting the show together, it took me back to when I was a little guy attending the auto show with every cousin we could fit in a car to transport us.  The only exception, back then we looked forward to the concept cars. Today our technology changes so rapidly, that the concept card is in production within two to four years. Talk about living in the future.

I snapped a few pictures, of which my favorite is the Audi performance cars. The TT & the R8..OH MY LORD, Sex on wheels.

All and all, I am still happy we have the ability to enjoy what we can do as humans in our endeavor to prosper.

There is one thing I learned at the auto show. Electric cars make no noise, so it is easy to get run down or run over.

Bigger ain’t always better.

When we were children there were people we literally looked up to, because they were, in our eyes larger than life. This is also the American philosophy. In the last 80 or so years it became our mantra. Be First, Be the biggest , be the baddest ( in a good way, Until Bush # 2) in everything we are.  The problem occurred when we forgot about the cost associated with being the biggest. It takes effort to keep up the front.

For years I lifted weights to put some man size of my former 150 ~ 160 lb frame ( top out at about 215~217, that’s almost 70lbs..OMG). There is one thing about gaining the muscle, I lost my flexibility, due to my concentration on being bigger. This same scenario has happened in our society too. BIG house, big card etc, yada yada yada.

After realizing how limited my range of motion has been hampering me lately I decided to do something about it. So let me proclaim my intentions, This is not a new years resolution either.

  • Ability to place my palms on the floor from a straight legged bent stance. ( can’t even touch my shoes,OH LORD PLEASE!)
  • Able to do Chinese split (GIVE ME STRENGTH)
  • ability to do backwards rollover into a hand stance.  (Pray for me)
  • get through 35 minute yoga or stretching routine in great form. ( I got health care so I’m good)
  • And last but not least drop down to 185 ~190 lbs (that’s hot). (Just say no to the Grape drink)

I have come to learn in various aspects, bigger is not always better. Most often just right is better than too much.

Acquiring the philosophy of SIMPLE seems to be the best way to live. Learning how having excess prevents many of us from living SIMPLE.

Here comes another list folks.

  • Too many people around you for no reason—Drama = NOT SIMPLE.
  • Having too much credit -Drama =NOT SIMPLE
  • Concerned about other peoples business and not just your own – DRAMA = NOT SIMPLE (IMMA DO ME, U DO YOU)
  • Not listening to what Life is telling you to do cause it seems hard -DRAMA = Not SIMPLE

If you live simply, below your means, you can have a Better experience which is more enjoyable than a Bigger experience.

So it’s time to at least TRY taking care of you MIND, BODY and SOUL. Which I feel is our own personal trinity. (BIBLE REFERENCE)

Peace

Be Blessed

Pissed off and tired of being Broke as hell!

NO MORE!

Let’s face it, we all got hoodwinked along the way. We were all told that you are SUPPOSE to have everything you want when you want it.

I bought it, literally, hook line and sinker. Credit cards, multiple car payments, everything on installments. Then I got a wake up call. 2007 the bottom fell out like a size 20 as in size 12 jeans.

I got downsized. It was uncomfortable to say the least. Part of the problem is the word COMFORT. Living in this country we see it every day, everyone is living so dam comfortable, it makes us think to ourselves. “I should be comfortable too.

American is not about family values, baseball and apple pie. It is about comfort and entitlement. Look around and you will see it if you just take the time to look.

Comfort got US(A) into our current situation. and here they are:

  • Credit card debit of $5000.00 or more
  • Driving cars we cannot afford (Insurance too)
  • School loans that rival national debts of small countries
  • House payment more than half our income. ( and your house is not valued for what you owe)
  • Giving our children too much material and not enough virtue. ( I am guilty)
  • Not saving at least 10 percent of what we earn.

These are just a few of the item i took inventory of when I got downsized in 2008.  On unemployment ( which was a fraction of my take home pay, but thank you for it.) I realized that I was paying for things, which I could not remember buying, thanks to the ease of acquiring a credit card. I was able to barely hold it together for the 9 months I was “UNEMPLOYED IN MICHIGAN”.

I vowed that when I returned to the stable financial state of being, I would not do this again.

Credit card Companies….ASSHOLES  (that was harsh Emmitt) , They are the DEVIL…Temptation . They should be the 8th deadly SIN.

Believe it or not they are almost impossible to live without, unless you know the rules of the game.

During my temporary vacation, several of my credit card companies dropped my limits on my cards to lower than what I owed. Can you believe that! That made my payments on what I owed grow, and my credit rating go down.

Yeah…OK…UMMHMM.

I told one credit card during a collection call, I will pay you off when I get the money and never use you again. I heard her smirk.  That is exactly what I did. C.R.E.A.M. Cash rules everything around me, is never a better statement of wisdom.

As luck would have it I found employment. I took about three or four months for me to get kinda stable again. I put my plan into action. I told my wife, “I have no money for some time to come for pleasant things. I was on a mission. I did what I had too, every penny I had counted for a bill that had no immediate value. I took about 18 months but I finally paid off my credit card balances.

I bet your wondering how I stayed motivated, Cause it is hard to do. Suze Orman helped but her “GIRLFRIEND” banter made me sick after a while of listening to her podcast. Then I lucked upon Dave Ramsey’s podcast. That was a Blessing. Listening to his podcast everyday for 1 hour helped me stay the course. I began listening to his show, and it helped me to understand VALUE for what I bought.

This Christmas, my wife asked me what I wanted. I told her “Nothing baby, cause I cannot think of one thing you could buy me that would have enough value long term. ” I just wanted to be content with shelter, food, clothes and family.

I realized, I don’t give a dam with the Jone’s think, cause they are not paying for me anyway. My clothes are clean, I have a roof over my head, and if you read my last blog post you know I have had more than enough food.

Here is the MOTTO: Buy what you need and not just what you want. The simple healthy life is the best life.

With the money I am not spending, I am Saving. I have a number in my head to hit by mid-2011, I know I can do that. So by  2015 I will be looking at the world slightly different.

LOOKING FOR A JOB IN MICHIGAN! Venting for the People.

I have a friend looking for a job in Michigan. : ( As a matter of fact now I have a great many friends looking for jobs in Michigan. Most of them tell me that it is a futile effort. The bottom just fell out of the basket and no one has a clue as to what  to do to correct the problems that come with not having enough money.  People just want a job that will allow them to maintain what they have, because many have mentally let go of the previous ideologies previously held.  SUV’s,  boats , summer homes up in northern Michigan are history.

It seems to me that the bulk of the people being laid-off are men. That is scary.

Why men, do you ask? Money is the answer. It’s not fair but men still make more money than women based on some statistics. Companies are not just cutting the fat, but the bone too. We are in a dire catch 22.

As I stated in another post, someone has hit the financial reset button in the United States.  My conspiracy theory friend  tells me at least once a week that it is a plan to get the world under one government and one monetary system. The way things are looking, I don’t think of him as crazy as I once did. NAHH, that couldn’t happen ; 0  .

There is a reoccurring them I hear often thought from guys with tons of experience but lacking a Bachelors degree.  Mr. X your resume is outstanding but we or (the company), were looking for someone with a degree.  Then other theme is; we were looking for someone with more experience specific to this position.

I hear this story from different individual a couple of time from various unemployed people.  WOW!

What are we all to do, the role of provider is shifting, therefore the natural order will shift too.

Tell me your story about the economy. One thing is for certain have faith and the future will be bright.

2+ 5 =Seven Year Theory

The magic Number.

The magic Number.

The Number 7 is magical to me.

  • The first 7 years of our lives  ( 0- 7 yrs)we simply learn about our environment. And are basically free children.
  • The second period of 7 we are in the phase of gaining responsibility for our lives and learning to interact with the world.  ( 8-15 yrs)
  • The third phase of 7 we are teenagers, where we have responsibility, and begin to learn about action vs. consequences. (15-22 yrs)
  • The fourth phase of seven we are truly considered adults and are in full fledged mode to place into effect what we have learned to this point in our life, and possibly share our experiences with a partner. While having some fun. (22-29 yrs)
  • The fifth phase of 7 is where we try to get serious about things and settle into routine, wile making things stable around us. ( 29-36 yrs)
  • The sixth phase is usually where we begin to take inventory and freak out mentally just a little bit. (37-44 yrs)
  • I have not gotten past the 6th phase yet, but from what I have been told, it is where the waters of life calm for a bit, and your mind clears. Then this whole process starts over again.

This number has been in the back of my mind for some time now. I began to ponder it because of a job interview I had many years ago when I was in my 20’s. The first thing the interview guy said to me was, “Where do you see yourself in five years.”

I wish someone would ask me that now. That person would get a serious earful. The first would be, Who are you and why do you care, because 5 is the wrong number.

7 is the right number, think about it, 7 days of the week, 7 is the life cycle number,  7 days of creation ( so they say), and 7 brides for 7 brothers etc…etc.

5 is just a number that when multiplied you get a good easy multiple. I just don’t dig it really it’s too limiting.

Here is the example:

Let’s say you want to embark upon something new, like a change in career path or starting a new small business. 5 years is just too short to be successful.

So I’ll break it down.

2+5=7

To start anything from scratch requires setup, and game plan acquisition time. This is your first two years. During this period we gather our intelligence, formulate a plan of action, test the waters to make sure our plan is sound and get our feet wet in the process. The two years is critical because you have to understand what you are about to get into in the long run. Two years is not a great deal of time to use as a testing ground.  This is why I always wonder about people who choose to be  doctors, lawyers, accountants, or any occupation with a long time investment before seeing the fruits. They must invest so much time preparing,  when they get to put their skill into action it must be carried through because so much time has been invested, even if they find out that they hate it.

Two years of planning, interning, volunteering and learning all there is about what you want to do. Trust me, whatever your final goal is you will know that it is true to your soul in a short period of time.

Once the two year period is done. You will be prepared, if executed properly to hit the ground running with for the next 5 years reaping the rewards of your goal/plan. During the two years, you were able to network, figure out the in’s and out’s  require, develop your skill set, and get the correct mindset to function in your new capacity.

During the course of the 2+5=(7) years serendipity will occur to lead you to some other wonderful things you totally did not expect.

Keep an eye out for more about the 2+5= 7 key to living.

Liv 4 now!

THE EGO AFFIRMATION….thanks Eckhart

Several moths ago a new Borders Books opens in my neighborhood. My reaction was twofold, “About Time” and “Thank you LORD”.

I love to read, especially before I fall asleep in bed at night. Around my third visit to the new store (in less than a month), I had finished Joel Osteen, “Your best life Now”, and was looking for some research material about planning. Perusing the store and letting mi mind wonder directed my thoughts about this new project that Oprah had been talking about. Her newest book for the Oprah book club was Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth”. This book was everywhere I looked in this store. I tried my best not to pick it up, but I did.

I did not read much of the inside cover, and gambled that I would actually like this book. Several weeks passed before my attention was place on Mr. Tolle’s manuscript. However once I began reading, the book did not grab my attention, but I pressed on.

There was a strange feeling of needing to get past the first chapters about his discussion regarding the EGO. The subject was not registering an impact with me as I estimated, since it was a much talked about and promoted piece.

The grasping the context of A New Earth, for me impart, changed upon reading Chapter 5 when the Pain-body was introduced. All of a sudden the words came alive and OH SNAP! I began to understand the context of the previous chapters a great deal better. I have had to proceed slowly with the book now to process the earlier part of the book.

I get it now, he does hit the human “BEING” dynamic in the bullseye. I hope 30% of the United States would read and grasp the concepts of Mr. Tolle. That 30% would easily change the face of this planet.

It’s funny I read the works of other authors for affirmation about my own thoughts and writings. We all understand the principles of life, we just interpret and digest it differently.

Well I am blogging on the FLY….gotta go!
