I pay for dumb shit!

I had been complaining inwardly about the content present on my television set for months. At least once a week I was saying, “How can I have 600 plus television channels, and nothing that I want to watch”.

Let me give you some information about me. I’m a little odd in the American male lexicon. I don’t like to watch sports on television and rarely talk about or care, what professional sports team is pitted against who. Sports stats bore me, most television movies are boring or I have seen them before (why watch it again, RIGHT!) or just have little interest because I critique the screen play, direction, acting, effects and accuracy of the presentation. Basically i’m a media snob. I do like music videos, documentaries and concerts on cable TV be they seem to be dwindling too in acceptable content.

To be honest I was keeping my “X” cable providers content levels because my daughter liked certain show and could watch them on here various devices. That was until I received my latest bill which was $168 and some change, $20 dollars higher than the month previous.

WTF, was my reaction as I witnessed my newly emailed cable television bill. Needless to say, my geeky side took over and I calculated what 168 multiplied by 12 represented. $2016 a year. That can buy a great deal of good experiences in my life. $2016 a year for the CHANCE to find something interesting on television. Granted this includes my high speed internet, but shoot, that is just a bit too much money for me. I need my internet so I can get news, blog , watch TED talks, but “never” watch porn.

So , I was all set to get rid of my cable television altogether (except the high speed internet of course) until I called the cable company and was talked down off the ledge, by being offered a lower package. So my bill was dropped in price by 50 percent before taxes and fees. I am a little happier, except they took away some of the stations that I loved the most, for instance VH1, Fuse, MTV, and a few other channels, but I still have Showtime and HBO, go figure. To add insult to a minor injury, my beautiful Samsung HDTV is fed with standard definition signal from my replacement new weeny cable box.

There is one caveat, I searched YouTube and built a DIY HD Television Antenna. It’s ugly, but hot dam does it work for local television stations, 70 channels in all, and they are beautiful uncompressed HD quality.

My HD TV antenna

My DIY HD TV antenna

So when I hunker for HD, and a choice of programming my options are :

  • Netflix (Streaming and DVD)
  • Redbox
  • Local Video Store
  • Apple TV
  • Computer turned into a media center
  • iPad/iPod touch
  • Playstation 3

I think its only a matter of time before I just junk the idea of having Cable TV to watch content anyway, at least until this season 3 of Showtime’s House of Lies is done. It would be awesome if I could just purchase rights/subscription to certain television content providers, but that is not available yet.

For now I feel better, but with each passing day my television is becoming my stereo/media center, computer screen.

The motto for 2014, Just let it go, if it takes more than it gives.

30 days to transformation

I cannot stress enough how 30 days, one month, four weeks or however you want to size it up is the key to personal transformation.

There is a book titled the Greatest Salesman in the World, authored by Og Mandino which was recommended to me by my uncle Rashid some years ago. This book delivers a method of change in appreciation for anyone who my be a little off their perspective path or require guidance without being preached to.

I suffered some emotional ups and downs in my life and you wonder if it will ever end when experiencing an emotional storm. I can truly attest how a simple 30 day practice of change is transformational. BUT, there has to be commitment to change.
Here are a list of things that can be transformed in 30 days with the correct method and dedication:

  • Your Physical body for the better.
  • Your outlook on any given subject.
  • Your health mental and physical.
  • Your addiction (eradicated).
  • Your entire being.
  • Your Love life.
  • As a matter of fact I had feelings of despair, thinking the world absolutely is horrible, only to have a small change redirect my focus in a blink of an eye. If magic is available in that manor, just think what magic you could experience in 30 days.

Stay so fresh and so Clean cause ain’t not body dope as you.

Not Creepy but Someone is watching you.

There is some who is observing what you do. Don’t get creeped out, but it is a truth. Ninety percent of the time we are partially aware of our surroundings. Like I said don’t be creeped out. In this day and age we put so much information about our personal lives up for grabs and then we freak when someone who is not on your radar give you a clue they are observing your life.

    From 2010-07-20

This is a Creepy Picture, I took in Milwaukee!

That is not the point of my topic. The brainwashing continues to evolve in our society that things have to have a negative spin.

I am referring to admiration. There is a wonderful feeling to get confirmation about how you live your life has impacted another person as an example of how to live. I was an only child, therefore I really did not have a model to live by i.e older brother, sister, or cousin. Much of my early childhood gave me few examples I though were worth wild, so I turned to the thing in the world I felt were good and just.

I grew up in Detroit during the heyday of the Young Boys incorporated and the arrival of Crack cocaine.  I was an only child with a strong presence from my mother, I knew caution was my friend… actually extreme caution was my friend. I chose to follow the path of the narrow, since the path that was broad had too much risk.

I have followed this philosophy to this day. There were a few times in my life when I slipped and followed, but it turned out to be a lesson to fortify a reason to stay in my own lane of life., and just do  ME.

The reason I started to write this post started from a memory that put a smile on my face. There was a kid who I though had the world by a string when i lived in Detroit proper as a teenager. He was a musician, the girls loved him and he made friends easily. Some 20 years later, we met again and spent some time together over several months. ‘

I realized our lives had taken drastically different paths. His path led him to the penitentiary, while I had built a family and a career. Other aspect of our early child/teen years came to light as well. One thing that he informed me of was how for the longest time admired the way I carried myself and my life when we were young. Blew my socks off to hear that, because this guy is and was talented and displayed great confidence. I kind of looked up to this guy because during our teen years he had so much confidence, was very respectful, and had freedoms other could not handle.
To find out that He was looking up to me was a shocker. During our mid teens my path changed and we began did not see each other much.

    Example # 2

I was a guitar player for a local church when I was 29 years old. During a revival the church brought in a young keyboard player and drummer from a different congregation.  They were AWESOME musicians.  I played guitar to fill in the sound and the keyboard player and I hit it off . I found out this guy was only 19 years old, but carried himself  like a man many years older.  He was marred with a small daughter, and played for his fathers church.  As time passed and we played more gospel functions together, I asked if his family would like to have diner with my family, I would cook.  We had a nice time., and we continued our friendship for a few more years. Then paths separate me from people again. The temporary factor set in.

Years later I had an inkling to visit the church where the young keyboard player father was pastor. Things had changed, II walked into the church, took a seat. Watched as my old friend played the organ with such grace and felt good that he was doing well. Just as he noticed me , he stopped playing, the music stopped and he walked over  hugged me, and introduced me to the entire congregation. Then he proclaimed this is Brother Emmitt. He changed my life,  then he thanked GOD and went back to the keyboard and began playing  for the rest of the service. (wait,WHAT!)

After the service he informed me that I gave him direction because of how I lived, and until that point he had not seen a young black man who had his own house, took care of his family and lives a decent life without being shady.  He told me that I let him know the dream was possible. GOD works in mysterious way.

My ramblings in this post are this, you don’t know who is watching and admiring what you do and who you are. Yes you are doing all the right things but the wrong things may seem easier. There is someone who loves you for who you are and what you can become . Live that life to inspire others to reach their potential, and your happiness will fill with abundance

    Love you All

We spend a great deal of time worrying about our current situation, than maybe enjoying the situation. For some people it is hard to see the forest because those dam trees are blocking their vision. 99% of our life is temporary, having said that about time, why waist it concentrating on thing that are the filler in our daily lives.

Things Just Work out, if you let them.

Remember that test it was so important for you to pass in high school, nope you don’t. Remember that bill that you didn’t have enough money to pay for several months ago, nope.

Do you remember what you were so worried about…?:

Seriously, chose the good things to look forward to. I know it requires a retraining of your entire outlook, but it is worth it. Most of this we call life is temporary, 99.9 percent of it is temporary, so why worry about thing that are bound to change anyway.

    Confidence the Heavy D way

Learn From Heavy D the Over Weight Lover in the House!

Recently the legendary Rapper and hip hop star Heavy D pass away or transitioned to the next level as I like to put it at the very young age of 44. That was a blow to many old school hip hop/rap music fans.

The Over Weight Lover Heavy D

Heavy D was a pioneer in many way, working in TV, Film and recording themes for shows such as MadTV and In Living Color. What I remember the most outside of his music was the fact that you never heard anything negative about him during his career. That is a big one in today’s culture where media figures thrive on controversay and negative information.

The Second and very important fact was that Heavy D was actually overweight. He actually flaunted the fact he was a plus size person, but because he was such a good person and an incredible dance you would  pay little attention to his size. Let me get this right. The name of the group that came to prominence was Heavy D and the boys. Heavy D seem to be a guy who enjoyed life, and was happy with who and what he represented. It just goes to show, if you love yourself, other will love you equally or more.

    People watching and interaction

There is nothing greater than the return of a smile.  One method of being happy, is being comfortable with the people around you no matter where you are. Strike up a conversation with a stranger the next time you are in a checkout line.

Being intentionally nice to people has great benefits, they usually return your niceness.

Let’s just be nice to other people.

Where does Self Esteem come forward from?

Confidence, Self Esteem, and happiness are all a part of self love.  It is one of those funny question as where does it come from, or how do you obtain it. The answer is simple. Self esteem comes from living and accomplishment. It is my belief we all start out with a zero point on the self esteem ladder. Some points we go positive some point we go negative. If there are too many factors (people) detracting from your self esteem, then Low Self esteem is the outcome.

Your experience is just that, YOURS. If you use things out of your control as a barometer for your existence them you will have a tough go at it. This is why we see superstars who are adored by the public with really messed up lives. They need the approval of other as a measure of their worth. The alternative are those Media stars who perform their acts as a matter of an expression of THEIR Individual passion.

Some people are such Complaining DIVA’s. I love the Snickers commercial where the people are these upset characters, like Aretha Franklin, or Joe Pesci.
They represent people with a horrible complaining disposition. We have at some time been these people or interacted with these types of people. It can be draining to say the least.

I am always grateful for the experience. Without people it would be boring here.

When people get to the negative state where they cannot see the good in their situation, they promote the gray feeling because of the gray feeling. They will get more things to complain about.

Its all about gratitude. Be happy for what you have and you will get more things to be happy about. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, you say Emmitt there are exceptions. I say nay to that. As long as you are living there is something in any moment to be grateful, and give thanks for experiencing.

If I am living, without serious pain, or hardship. Then grateful and happy I am. I did a Yoda sentence.

Personally, I say thank you so much during the day it would amaze you.
